ON CERTAIN PROBLEMS OF SAMPLING DESIGNS AND ESTIMATION FOR MULTIPLE CHARACTERISTICS
T. J. RAO, Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta
SUMMARY. We shall review some of the sampling techniques involving multiple auxiliary variables. In certain situations, when we have many study variables, it is of interest to estimate parameters relating to these variables. However, some of the study variables may be poorly correlated with the selection probabilities when probability proportional to size sampling technique is being used. In this article, we shall also discuss how to provide alternative estimators in such cases. Next we consider multivariate stratified surveys and finally touch upon some of the recent developments including analysis of complex surveys based on several variables.
