SUMMARY. Sengupta (1989) considered an unbiased estimator based on a simple random sample taken with replacement (SRSWR) for a finite population variance. The estimator is multiple of the variance of the observations associated with the distinct units of sample. The multiplier involves the number of draws. We present an alternative multiplier involving the distinct number of sampled units.
