SUMMARY. Theoretical studies on relative performances of the product estimator and the difference estimator as against the regression estimator (of a finite population mean) are well-known and, generally, large sample approximations are used for the mse’s for such comparisons. Exact mse comparison may, however, indicate exceptions to the generally drawn conclusions. The purpose of this note is to highlight such exceptions.
