SUMMARY. Singh and Srivastava (1980) proposed a sampling scheme for which the usual estimator is unbiased. Along the lines of controlled PPAS sampling developed by Rao and Nigam (1989), we obtain the controlled sampling version of this features: (i) it retains the unbiasedness property of the regression estimator as in the scheme of Singh and Srivastava, (ii)the unbiased variance estimator under the scheme proposed by Singh and Srivastava and (iii)the variances under the two schemes are approximately equal for large n, the sample size.

AMS (1991) subject classification. 62D05.

Key words and phrases. Controlled PPAS, unbiased regression estimator, non-negative estimator.
