A METHOD OF SAMPLING WITH REPLACEMENT

SUMMARY. The purpose of this article is to give a method of computing the $m$-th element in the ordered set of $N^n$ samples arranged lexicographically in sampling with replacement. The method is also applicable with unequal selection probabilities and is therefore quite useful in situations when pps with replacement samples are needed. For completeness, the algebra of the method of computing the $m$-th element in the ordered set of $({N \atop n})$ samples developed, earlier by Nigam and Gupta (1983) in case of sampling without replacement is also given.
