SUMMARY.   The percentile residual life function does not uniquely determine the underlying distribution. We provide an uniqueness theorem that gives conditions under which the  underlying life distribution is uniquely determined by percentile residual life distributions. This theorem is a correct version of part (b) of Theorem 1 in Arnold and Brockett (1983) and is more general than the result of Joe and Proschan (1984).

AMS (1991) subject classification.   Primary 62E10, secondary 62N05.

Key words and phrases. Percentile residual life function, Quantile function, Schroder equation.
