SUMMARY.  The properties of two estimators of a parent-offspring correlation coefficient $\ro_ms are compared. It is shown that the modification to the pairwise estimator proposed by Srivastava and Keen (1988) leads to a loss of accuracy. Specifically, the asymptotic variance of the corrected pairwise estimator is uniformly larger than the asymptotic variance of the pairwise estimator is uniformly larger than the asymptotic variance of the pairwise estimator provided $\ro_ms \gt 0$. The loss in accuracy increases with increasing imbalance in the sibship size distribution.
